Facebook is introducing free ‘Verified Badge’ to prevent fake profiles created with AI

Jarnews Desk

Fake profiles, photos, videos, and various rumors created by artificial intelligence (AI) are increasing day by day on social media. This is spreading confusion, and from the individual level to the organization, people are being deceived in various ways. Facebook is going to make big changes to prevent this. This information was recently reported in a report by technology media Engadget.

Free Verified Badge

According to the report, Facebook is going to launch a free verified badge to identify real users. To get this badge, the user will have to complete a selfie video verification process, which will be matched with the account owner’s photo to confirm their identity.

Tech giant Meta said the verified badge will confirm that the user behind the Facebook profile is a real person. However, it is completely different from Meta’s previous subscription-based service ‘Meta Verified’ – the new service will be offered to general users and completely free.

Conditions that must be met

To get this verified badge from Facebook, the user must meet a few conditions:

  • User must be at least 18 years old.
  • The account must be in good standing according to Facebook’s Community Standards.
  • Must not have a history of fraud, false identities, or suspicious activity
  • Must be successful in the identity verification process through selfie video

Once the identity verification is complete and the conditions are met, the badge will be visible in various important places on Facebook—profile, marketplace, groups, and Facebook Dating.

Why this initiative?

Meta said that artificial intelligence can now easily create fake photos, fake identities, and credible-looking profiles, which are used to create increasingly fraudulent, fraudulent, and fake accounts. With this new badge, users can at least be sure that the person they are communicating with is a real person.

However, Meta has made it clear that this badge does not guarantee the honesty or trustworthiness of a person—it is only proof of identity verification. Therefore, the company recommends always being cautious before making financial transactions or sharing personal information online.
